About The Project

It’s kinda hard to summarize my project in a few lines but I’ll try. If you want to know about the motivations and details of the project, I’d advise you to watch the video above on YouTube where I explain everything.

I’ve been playing basketball for over 10 years now and throughout my young life, the game blessed me with me so many things: I met some of my best friends through basketball, got to see so many places and made countless of precious memories.

Everybody who plays this game will agree that basketball just has a certain vibe to it that you can’t really describe…an unique culture unlike in any other sport. Basketball is more than a sport, it’s a way of life, a creative form of expressing yourself through movement: basketball is rhythm, dance, soul, funk, jazz, art, hip-hop…poetry in motion. This type of vibe transcends different cultures. We may speak different languages and have different values based on the culture of our respective countries but once the ball starts to bounce we are all the same. And no matter where you come from – we all experience the same joy that this game brings to us.

During my travels in different countries, I always had my basketball with me and this allowed me to experience the beauty of our basketball community. The ball let me meet a lot of great people and got me a place to sleep numerous times. There are so many stories I could tell but at one point I just thought: “All these memories are way too precious to just get lost like that, maybe I should document them and share them with the world .”

And this is how the project was born:

I want to document and portray basketball culture everywhere on this planet – (b)all around the world!

It doesn’t matter the level of playing or if it’s streetball or organized, professional or amateur basketball – everything that seems interesting will be documented…

…via pictures on this homepage, via videos on YouTube or with the world map on this page where I will tag all the courts that I’ve played on. I just want to play and film basketball in as many places as possible and some day in the future I want to make a cinematic movie out of all the footage I have.

As of now, may 2020, I plan on starting the project as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic allows me to travel freely. Like everyone else, I still have to work and earn money to somehow finance all these travels, so it will take some time to complete a project like this. Or actually, you can’t “complete” this project – it’s a life-long project but let’s assume the major part is done when the movie comes out. This might take many years but you know what they say: life’s a marathon, not a sprint.

So thank you for being patient and being with me on this journey, I appreciate every single person who is interested in this project.

Love and blessings

FAQ

When will you start the project?

I will start filming stuff for the movie and YouTube as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic allows me to travel freely.

UPDATE may 2021: Covid is still going strong but I could start the project and get in the first episodes. Click on the playlist above to see them (will be updated regularly)

What is the project about?

It’s about basketball and how it’s played in different countries. I plan on travelling to various places all over the world to capture basketball culture via film. I want to document those moments on YouTube and eventually produce a cinematic movie out of all the footage I have one day.

What are your motivations for this project?

I love playing basketball and throughout my life it brought me a lot of joy. Since people all over the planet experience the same love for this game, I think it’s time to portray our beautiful basketball community so everybody can see it. For a more in-depth look on my motivations – watch the video above.

How long will it take to complete the project?

I want to keep on adding content to the project as long as it feels right and until I feel like doing something else in life, so I’d say that this is a life-long project and therefore can’t be completed. When it comes to the movie, I can’t really tell: maybe 2 years, 5 years or 10 years from now…

Do you plan on visiting every country for the movie/project?

I will release the movie whenever I feel like that I have enough footage. Visiting every country is not my goal. I will just see where my ball leads me. When it comes to the project in general, I feel like it would be amazing to have played basketball in every country on this planet but it’s something that has to happen naturally – I’m not a stat-chaser :p

How do you manage to do all these travels? Don’t you have a job?

I work as a freelancer, so in theory I can work from anywhere. There is still a lot of stuff that I have to take care of but I’m trying to optimize my professional situation in order to be as free as possible in my travels. I am not trying to do a world tour in one go, so I’m not in a rush with anything, which will benefit this project. But that’s why it may take some time 🙂

How can I stay updated with the project?

Subscribe to my YouTube channel to watch my latest basketball content or follow me on Instagram to get different impressions from all around the basketball world. I will try to update this site from time to time and on the “courts“-section you will find a map with courts I played at.

Are you open for collaborations?

Yes, feel free to contact me anytime via my social media platforms or through the contact formular 🙂 I love basketball and anything that has to do with it – no matter the level of playing!!!
